- Canikli Hacı Ali Paşa, founder of the family, born 1133 (1720-21) in Istanbul; lived in Canik, was exiled to Ankara, but returned to Canik; participated in the Ottoman-Russian war starting in 1768; lived in Trabzon as a vizier and a Crimean serasker; he and his family held influential political positions; he was the governor of Erzurum, where he died in 1785
