ʼOsṭāʼteʼos Ṣlíbā, 1854-1930

ʼOsṭāʼteʼos Ṣlíbā was born in Turkey, but served much of his ecclesiastical career in India. He first moved to India in 1881 as part of the Patriarchal delegation sent by the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Peter IV. In 1906, Ṣlíbā returned to the Mor Mattai monastery outside of Mosul, where he was consecrated as a monk. Two years later, in 1908, he was appointed as bishop/metropolitan, and returned to India as the Patriarchal delegate. He remained in India until his death in 1930.
