Marseillois (Ship of the line : 1767-1791)
The Marseillois was a 74-gun ship of the line commissioned by the Chamber of Commerce of Marseille in 1762. She was laid down in Toulon in February 1763 and launched on July 16, 1766. She entered service in November 1767. As a royal ship of the line, the Marseillois saw extensive service during the American War of Independence, including the Battles of Chesapeake, Saintes, and Saint Kitts. She was decommissioned into the reserve at Rochefort on February 13, 1783. She was renamed the Vengeur du peuple in 1791 after the French Revolution.
