Qādirīyah

Qādirīyah is a Sufi order (ṭarīqah), founded by ʻAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī in Baghdad in the 12th century. The order is prominent in North Africa and other regions, having spread very widely both during and especially after Jīlānī's lifetime.

Sufi order of dervishes named after ʿAbd al-Ḳādir al-Ḏj̲īlānī, who was a preacher and professor of Ḥanbalī law in Baghdad; system was established and propagated during the founder's lifetime; Ḳādirī community acknowledges nominal allegiance to the keeper of ʿAbd al-Ḳādir’s tomb in Bag̲h̲dād
