Philip, Duke of Burgundy, 1396-1467
Burgundian ruler. He was ruler of Flanders, Brabant, Limburg, Artois, Hainaut, Holland, Zeeland, Friesland and Namur. Known for the capture of Joan of Arc and ransoming her to the English for trial and eventual execution. He is also noted for his lavish court, patronage of Flemish artists, collection of manuscripts, and founding of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
