Gabra Śellāsē Walda Aragāy, Ṣaḥāfē teʼezāz, approximately 1844-1912
Born in approximately 1844 in Dabra Berhān, Gabra Śellāsē Walda Aragāy was a close associate of the future Emperor Menilek as a youth, ultimately becoming his principal private secretary (Ṣaḥāfē teʼezāz) in 1876 and, at the end of his career, Ethiopia's first Minister of Pen (1907-1910). In addition to serving as the inaugural Nebura ed of Addis Ālam Māryām Church (1903-1912), he was a long time patron and head of Rāgu'ēl Church in Addis Ababa, where he was buried upon his death in 1912.
