Ciantar, Giovanni Antonio, 1696-1778
Count Giovanni Antonio Ciantar was a lawyer, poet, historian, archaeologist. Ciantar studied law and theology in Rome before becoming a jurat in the università. A noted scholar, he was a member of the Accademia senese degli intronati and of the Società Colombaria fiorentina. He is noted for his treatise against the Benedictine Ignjat Đurđević (1675-1737), who argued that Mjlet (Croatia), not Malta, was the location of Saint Paul's shipwreck as described in Acts 27-28.
