Jean, de Hesdin, approximately 1320-
Member of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, though a chaplain and not a knight. He was a master and dean of Theology at the Universitè de Paris. He had entered the Order of Saint John by 1353. By 1353 he was senior enough to be Preceptor of the Order's house at Mont-du-Soissons near Soissons in 1353. By 1363, he was both Prior of Corbeil, an important community of the Order, and Preceptor of Val-du-Provins. He engaged in a polemic with Petrarca regarding the Pope's return to Rome, though the anonymous reply to Petrarca's criticism was not by Fra Jean de Hesdin.
