Ryłło, Maksymilian Stanisław, 1802-1848
Polish Jesuit priest, preacher, missionary, and rector of the Collegium Urbanum in Rome. He made missionary trips to the Middle East where he helped establish a college in Beirut (later the Université Saint-Joseph). He was chairman of the commission to record the testimony of Makryna Mieczysławska. Appointed Pro-Vicar Apostolic of Central Africa from 1847, he died in Khartoum while traveling up the Nile from Cairo.

- 1802-1848; Jesuit, rector of the Collegium Urbanum in Rome, missionary in the Middle East and Africa; born Dec. 31 in Podorosk, master's in philosophy from Akademii Połockiej; expelled with Jesuits as a candidate in 1820 and went to Rome, where he studied, preached, and professed in 1838; proficient in Arabic; traveled to the Middle East in 1837 and 1839, where he was active in Syria and Lebanon and helped establish a college in Beirut; in 1845, appointed by the Pope as chairman of the commission to record the testimony of Makryna Mieczysławska; died June 17, 1848 in Khartoum during a mission to Cairo and up the Nile in Egypt
