Valois-Angoulême (Royal house : 1515-1589)
With the death of King Louis XII without heirs in 1498, the cadet branch of the Valois direct line, the Valois-Angoulême, inherited the throne in 1515 with the coronation of King Francis I. The direct line of the royal house of Valois became extinct through its cadet branches in 1589 with the assassination of King Henry III. The royal line then passed to the royal house of Bourbon.
