Medici (Family : Florence, Italy)

Family originating in the twelfth century that ruled Florence and Tuscany as one of the most influential families in Italy, in part due to their wealth from banking and trading. They numbered several popes and rulers among their line, and the family were highly renowned as patrons of the arts and sciences. Giovanni Battista Gastone de' Medici died in 1737 as the last Grand Duke of Tuscany, while his sister Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici lived until 1743.
